Hey Guys,

Anybody know if setting your valve clearance a little tighter than spec is acceptable for a track bike? I have a CBR929RR. Who would be a good person to contact on this? Thanks

Jake

Just curious, what would be your reasoning behind doing that?

Trying to avoid having to pull the camshafts to adjust the shim sizes. The exhaust valve clearance is out of spec on the tight side. I would guess the honda specs have a little bit of safety factor built in to them? Honda spec shows .27mm clearance for exhaust valves, i am currently around .19mm.

It's not that big of a deal to pull the cams and replace the shims, especially since you are already in that far. If you're not comfortable doing it maybe you have a buddy that is? I've adjusted all my bikes a few times now. I wouldn't put it back together with them being that far out.

I would definitely adjust your valves correctly, when valves get tight it is because of wear on the valve seat, although it is normal you can potentially lose a valve retainer and drop a valve, much easier to fix it before it becomes a problem!

As others have said. Get it fixed right. Doesn't matter if you're using it for track duty or not.
