I have a green westhold transponder that I used when I was racing in the 250 class. I have been gone for a couple years and now I am wondering if the thing still works. Is there a way to test this without an activator? The website claims a 9 year shelf life, but who knows. I would like to have it working by Putnam in April.

Not the answer you're looking for but:

If the battery is dead and it doesn't work, you'll find out at Putnam. I don't think you can change the batteries on the green ones so you'll need to buy a new one or rent one, which you can do at Putnam.

If it works then you'll find out at Putnam.

I guess what I'm getting at, finding out now doesn't really change the outcome, unless you want to buy one cheaper than MCRA sells them, which probably wont be that big of a savings...

I checked on the cost of getting a new battery and last year it was only $10 plus shipping. But mine worked last year and they indicated it should last for 4 years or more depending upon usage. So my suggestion would be if yours does not work, just rent one for the event and send yours for a new battery. Thats my plan anyway.

They have lithium batteries so as long as they aren't activated they should hold their charge. Also, I have changed the battery in the blue one and I think the green one is supposed to be even easier. Having said that, the batteries are not regular batteries. They are lithium and I got mine off Ebay for like 9 bucks each. For not much more than that you can send them off and have Westholder replace the battery as Barry said.

Thanks, guys. I forgot I could rent one if mine crapped out. For ten buck, I may just order a spare though.
