My 2005 R1 is running hot! They do tend to run hot but this one is extra bad! I'm thinking some kind of race radiator and thermostat to kick the fans on sooner. It was recommended to me that I just go stock and put a manual switch on the fan. That would probably work but I would still want it to turn on by thermostat of coarse in case I'm distracted?
The bike has 50 k on it and the radiator looks like world war 3 so stock with a manual switch or lower thermostat setting would do the job but ; I would like to upgrade the radiator if it don't take too much fabrication. Saw some nice radiators that bolt in for newer R1's but have not found such an animal for my old one?

Ok never mind just ordered OEM

Still could use advice on thermostats and or manual fans?

if its running hot i would start with a coolant change and flush. Make sure your radiator and thermostat are in good operating condition. You shouldnt really need to upgrade them as long as everything is working correctly.

Keep in mind all it takes to cause an overheating condition is a bad seal on the radiator cap.

It could be something like that on the other hand 40% of my cooling fins are smashed flat by rocks etc.

The thermostat is good and fans kick on when they should.

mine is ALWAYS hot. I see 230 and even 240 with my light flashing sometimes. The after market radiators are $$$$ my bike with a good discount was still 1200. I swap coolant even other weekend with track days to help fight it some, but it does not stop it.

make sure everything is flowing right also, you might have a clogged line

Ya 220 - 240 is what I'm seeing but no red except after I shut it off and then start it up soon after.

Do you have a stock thermostat setting and no manual switch Tommy?

Mine has always run hot but its getting worse the last few years !

I would but I just spent all that money on Suspension - I knew the thing would act up if I did that too!

Got room to fit a bigger fan? Sounds like the only real solution is a better radiator. Have you looked on bike specific forums? There's probably another oem application that you could make work to save cash

I have done some looking but I'm not real patient so I already ordered an OEM radiator.

This time it will get a cox guard and some kind of a fan and or modification!

Thanks Tommy + you have more power then me so maybe stock will do the trick - on the other hand I have way more heat cycles?
